Ford Escort RS 2000

Biarritz Sports And Classic Cars (Bscc) is pleased to present this Ford Escort RS2000 MKII Group 2.

The Escort RS2000 was the sporting version of the range. Fitted with the famous 8-valve Pinto engine, it was marketed with 110hp.

After the MK I won the European Rally Championship in 1968 and 1969, the MKII was crowned World Rally Champion in 1979 with Björn Waldegård and 1981 with Ari Vatanen.

This Ford Escort is a genuine RS2000 (Australian made) with RS2000 registration.

It has remained in the hands of its owner since 1976. The latter, a well-known driver in the South-West of France, gave it a fine record of achievements:
-2nd in Group 2 in the 1983 Bayonne Denek Batt French dirt rally championship
-2nd, Scratch at the Adour Pyrénées Regional Rally
-1st Scratch at the Rallye Historique Côte Basque 2010
-1st Scratch at the Rallye Historique Côte Basque 2011
-4th Scratch classification at the Rallye Vasco Navarro Historico 2011
-1st Scratch classification at the Rallye VHRS Bordeaux Aquitaine Classic 2012

The bodyshell of this Escort has been prepared to David Sutton's specifications.

Engine :
- Pinto type engine developing 190hp.
- 205 block, lightened crankshaft and flywheel. Balanced clutch mechanism, Trimetal ACL bearings.
- Burton Stage 3 cylinder head, with large valves and double valve springs (80kg).
- Kent camshaft Reference HT1E, diagram 53-79-89-43, adjustable pulley.
- Forged aluminum pistons, short skirts, H-rods, ARP bolts, Cometic head gasket.
- Sierra Cosworth high pressure oil pump, large capacity aluminum oil sump, oil cooler.
- 2 Weber 44IDF vertical carburetors, 4 large diameter tubular exhaust outlets,
- 123 Ignition (with 2 recorded curves), high-capacity coil,
- Group 4 3-beam aluminum water radiator, thermostatically-controlled electric fan,
- Large diameter exhaust line, Burton muffler.
- Lambda sensor with richness control gauge on dashboard.

Gearbox
- N9 type 5-speed gearbox (original Sierra) with 1st long gear modification,
- Sintered metal clutch disc and Sierra mechanism,
- The gearbox tunnel on the bodyshell is fitted with hatches that allow the gearbox (without the clutch bell) to be removed and replaced in ½ hour (As David Sutton reccomendation).

Rear Axle
- Reinforced type Banjo Rear Axle. Reinforced wheel shafts in two from Quaife.
- Salisbury type self-locking rear axle, 8x125 pinion,
- Adjustable tie rods, adjustable Panhard bar,
- Transmission shaft with intermediate bearing

Brakes :
- Diam 245 ventilated front discs with Wilwood 4-piston calipers, ‘Carbone Lorraine’ pads.
- Non-ventilated rear discs with Sierra Cosworth-type calipers, ‘Carbone Lorraine’ pads.
- Hydraulic handbrake.
- Pedal box kit with knob for adjusting the front/rear break balance while driving.
- Aviation-type brake hoses.

Steering :
- Group 1 type rack and pinion, direct steering (2 ¼ turns from stop to stop):
- Electric power steering column.

Suspension:
- Mac Pherson-type front combination height-adjustable springs, Bilstein shock absorbers.
- Group1-approved large-diameter stabilizer bar, 3-bearing type.
- Adjustable Mac Pherson lower support struts for camber modification.
- Reinforced engine support crossmember modified to allow all front axle adjustments.
- Bilstein rear shock absorbers.

Rear luggage compartment :
- 2 Facet low-pressure electric fuel pumps
- Bolted straps to hold spare wheel
- Aluminum support for jack.
- Battery in aluminum box and plastic cover

Wheels :
- A set of 7-inch Minilite wheels fitted with 205x60x13 Tyres.

Bodywork :
- Polyester front wings
- Polyester Rear bonnet
- Macrolon rear and quarter windows.
- Standard 6-point roll bar with door reinforcement - Buckets - Harness - Fire extinguisher-
